- story by MaterialDistrict

Secumat® Green is a biodegradable three-dimensional erosion control mat designed to stabilise soil during the early stages of vegetation growth. Acting as an artificial root network, it protects the substrate against erosion until natural vegetation is sufficiently established. Once plant roots have taken over the stabilising function, the mat gradually biodegrades, leaving a stable and naturally reinforced soil structure.

The product consists of an extruded, bio-based 3D net made from fully biodegradable raw materials. It provides temporary surface protection and root stabilisation, particularly in applications where vegetation requires extended time to develop. The Secumat® Green 60G5 variant is designed to be filled with soil, reducing follow-up maintenance costs while protecting both soil and vegetation structures.

Secumat® Green is lightweight and easy to handle, enabling fast and cost-efficient installation without specialised tools. It can be installed with overlaps and joints in standard applications or edge-to-edge on slopes without cutting. As the system does not require removal after use, dismantling and disposal costs are avoided.

Typical applications include slope stabilisation in infrastructure projects (up to approximately 40°), facing systems with inclinations up to 90°, stepped facing systems, and riverbanks or water fluctuation zones. The mat supports vegetation establishment for several growing seasons and can provide protection for up to ten years in low-erosion-risk environments. In hydraulic applications and small watercourses with low flow velocities, the thicker 3D structure helps stabilise coarser soils.

Secumat® Green offers a temporary yet robust erosion control solution, combining flexibility and structural stability. It supports vegetation growth, reduces erosion risks during vulnerable growth phases or drought conditions, and aligns with sustainability requirements through its fully biodegradable composition.
